1955 CHEVROLET CAMEO
The 1955 Chevrolet Cameo was a high-end, factory-custom pickup introduced as part of Chevrolet’s Task Force truck series, marking a bold shift toward styling and comfort. It combined car-like styling with a truck. Slab-sided, fiberglass-reinforced pickup bed. Two-tone paint (1955 only in Bombay Ivory with red accents). Full chrome trim, wraparound rear window, and sedan-style rear bumper. 1955 Cameo 3100 was the rarest variant, with only 5220 built. The 1955 Chevrolet Cameo was a revolutionary, limited-run luxury pickup.

This is a full frame off build. The frame has been boxed 3x5 rails, designed for wide rear tires. Parallel four link rear suspension with QA1 coil overs. Front suspension has QA1 Tubular “A” arms and QA1 coil overs. Both front and rear suspension have anti-sway bars. Steering is a breeze with power steering. Even has 4-wheel disc brakes! The brakes have 12” rotors powered by a Hydro-Boost system. A 15-gallon fuel tank by “Tanks.” High pressure fuel pump with return pluming for possible FI carburation. The differential is 3.43.1 gears with Auburn Posi traction. There is a frame mounted trans cooler. Take a close look at the 17” cast aluminum Rallye wheels and Fuson tires 235/55R17 and 225/50R17.

The engine was built by Mike Gipson and is a 383 Stroker with a Scat Industries rotating assembly, and a Comp RV high torque cam. Real power comes from Edelbrock aluminum heads with roller rockers. Carburation is by Quick Fuel, and a HEI distributor. Cooling is taken care of by a Champion 4-core aluminum radiator. The transmission is a 700R4 with a lockup torque converter controlled by Bowler system. The exhaust was built by Mike Sadder. It is 3” tube with flex sections to eliminate vibration. An “H” pipe crossover and electric cutouts. The mufflers are Borla XP’s.

Luxury interior touches such as two-tone white and red powered bucket seats. A full bench seat also comes with the Cameo that has been done in the two-tone red and white (see photos). The door panels have the custom touch with two-tone white and red. The head liner is done in red as the sun visors. Upgrade to electric wipers. The dash has a full array of Auto Meter gauges; water temp, oil press, fuel level, volts, speedometer, and a 7000-rpm tachometer. A chrome 5-position tilt steering column. Summit Billet gas and brake pedals. Very high-end BOSS Audio system with 4-speakers and a sub with power amp. A Sirius XM radio. Yes, the Cameo has heat and defroster!

The Cameo comes with a folder of build receipts. The build was from 2018-2022. This includes the custom milled Hickory bed. All chrome has been done or replaced. The gas filler has been relocated to driver’s side bed with a powered opener. The build includes complete rewire and updated fuse box. The lights are LED. This is one of the finest road handling ’55 Cameo’s available.
